Hon. Colonial Secretary,

The terms of my appointment as Captain Superintendent of Police include free quarters. There are however now no Government quarters available for me, as those formerly inhabited by the Captain Superintendent of Police are now allotted to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, while the former Deputy Superintendent of Police's quarters are at present occupied by an Inspector, and will ultimately be allotted to one of the Assistant Superintendents.

I therefore venture to ask for a house allowance instead.

2nd June, 1902.

(Sd.) P. J. Badeley,

Capt. Supt. of Police.
